About Class 10 Math Curriculum

As per Central Board of Secondary Education’s new curriculum, CBSE Class 10 Board exams are mandatory. The new assessment structure will have 80 marks for the annual examination along with Internal Assessment of 20 marks.

 

 

 

Detailed Syllabus List of Class 10

Unit 1- Number System:

i)                    Real Numbers:

                          Euclid’s division lemma; The fundamental theorem of Arithmetic; Terminating/Non-terminating recurring decimals.

 

Unit 2- Algebra:

i)  Polynomials:  

                      Zeroes & coefficients of quadratic polynomials, division algorithm for Polynomials.

ii)    Pair of Linear Equations in Two Variables:

                                                                 Algebraic method of solving the pair of            linear equation-by substitution, by eliminating and by cross multiplication method; Equations reducible to linear equations.

iii)   Quadratic Equations:

                                  Standard form of quadratic equation; Solution of quadratic       equations by factorization, by completing the square; Nature of roots.

iv)  Arithmetic Progressions:

                                           Introduction; Derivation of the nth term & sum of the n terms of an A.P.

 

Unit 3- Coordinate Geometry:

Lines:

                  Graph of linear equations; Distance formula, Section formula; Area of the triangle.

 

Unit 4- Geometry:

   i) Triangles:

                    Similar figures; Similar triangles-(Prove) If a line is drawn parallel to one side of a triangle, the other two sides are divided in the same ratio; If a line divides two sides of a triangle in the same ratio, the line is parallel to the third side; Basic proportionality theorem; Criteria of similarity; Area of similar triangles; Pythagoras theorem and its converse.

ii) Circle:

         Tangent to a circle and it’s construction; Number of tangent from a point to a circle.

iii) Constructions:

                    Division of line segment; Construction of similar triangle; Construction of tangents to a circle.

 

Unit 5- Trigonometry:

 i) Introduction to Trigonometry:

                                            Trigonometric ratios of an acute angle; Values of the trigonometric ratios of 30°, 45°, and 60°. The relationship between ratios.

ii) Trigonometric Identities:

                                        Trigonometric ratios of complementary angles; Proof and applications of the identities.

iii) Height and Distances:

                                 The angle of elevation; Angle of depression; Problems based on angles including only 30°, 45°, 60°.

 

Unit 6- Mensuration

 i) Areas related to circles:

                                Motivate the area of a circle; area of sectors and segments of a circle. Problems based on the areas and perimeter of the plane figures.

ii) Surface Areas and Volumes:

                                         Surface areas and volumes of combinations of any two of the figures: cubes, cuboids, spheres, hemispheres and right circular cylinder/cones. Frustum of a cone; Conversion of one solid shape into another.

 

Unit 7- Statistics and Probability:

 i) Statistics:

              Mean, median and mode of grouped data; Cumulative frequency graph.

ii) Probability:

                   Classical definition of probability; Simple problems on single events.

Tips for preparation to maximize the Score in Class 10 Math

Being a Student of class X is a high time that you should give a proper shape to your preparation. The Class X math is the easy one though many students face difficulties in scoring good marks. Mathematics is not that much hard to score if you practice regularly and keep a check on some very important tips and tricks. Some preparation to score good marks in math-

  1. Make a proper timetable and follow the timetable because you need to be punctual not in your studies but in other leisure activities also. Follow a proper timetable for every day and try to finish your syllabus on time to boost your confidence in exam.
  2. A clear understanding of the syllabus and exam pattern is very helpful in order to score good marks.
  3. Every chapter of Math contains many important formulas and theorems which are hard to revise at the time of exam. In order to tackle this problem, create separate notes of important Math formulas and theorems.
  4. In order to score good marks never ignore figures and graphs while preparing for exam. However, Graphs and Figures are not a major part of the exam, but they can help you to score more marks if you concentrate on them.
  5. Solve practice paper and previous year paper in limited time.
  6. Identify your weak areas and work on them.

 

 

 

Paper Attempting Tips for Class 10 Math

After the preparation of exam, there are many to keep in mind while attempting the Question paper-

  1. Utilize the First fifteen minutes very effectively because the first fifteen minutes are for reading the question paper. Try to read all the question in the given time and categorize them as easy, moderate and tough.
  2. Keep a close eye on the time in the examination hall, don’t waste too much time on any question and don’t pressurize yourself for time management if the question paper is not much longer.
  3. Keep your Question paper and Answer sheet neat, clean and tidy this will make a good impact on the examiner.
  4. In the long Answer type questions, try to answer Step by step because as described by CBSE, there are marks for the step-wise answer. So, even if you are not able to answer correctly, writing the known steps will help you to score the little bit.
  5. Stay confident and positive during exam.
  6. Try to attempt the high weightage questions first.
  7. Re-check the answer sheet at the end of the exam.
