(a) Society in Pre-British India-Varna System, Chaturashrama, Self Sufficient village economy, Nature of Social Classes.
(b) British rule and its impact on Society.
(c) Processes of Social Change -Sanskritization, Westernization, Modernization, Secularization, Globalization.

Unit-II : Origin and Development of Sociology in India (Periods-15)
(a) Development of Sociology as a discipline.
(b) Different Perspectiues in studying Indian Society- Indological, Historical, Dialectical and Subaltern.

Unit- III: Rural and Urban Society (periods-25)
(a) Village and Village Community – Concept, features, Agrarian Social Structure and Classes, Changes in Village life.
(b) Urban Community – Concept, features and Urban class structure.

Unit-IV: Indian Social Institutions : Continuity and Changes (period-45)
(a) Family – Joint Family, Changes in Structure and functions of family.
(b) Caste and Tribe- Concept and Features, Concept of Dominant Caste, Jajmani System, Changes in Caste System, Changes in Tribal Society, Caste-Class Continuum.
(c) Religion-Viwes of Vivekananda and Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, and Religion in the Present day Society.
(d) Education- Role of Eduction in Modernization and Social Change.

 

Unit-V : Contemporary Social Issues (Periods-50)
(a) Population Poverty, Illiteracy and Unemployment – Concepts and their interrelations, Consequences and Remedies.
(b) Communalism, Regionalism, Terrorism – Concept, Causes and Consequences.
(c) Corruption- Concept and Remidal Measures.
(d) Women – Changing Status of Women in India, Violence against Women.
(e) Envnironment – Concept, Relation with Society, Environmental Problems.
(f) Mass-Media :- Concept, Influence of Mass-Media in Social Life.

N.B:-
1) Internal Choice -There is no overall choice in the paper. However, there is an internal choice in two (02) questions of 5 marks weightage and two (02) questions of 6 marks weightage.
2) In S.A. , LA-I, L.A-II types, total allotted marks in each may be sub-divided, if necessary.
3) Questions should be set covering each unit.
